Most FAQ!

It is not recommended and since there are so many variables, there is no guarantee of proper adhesion, but yes, it is possible to apply DTF films (Direct-to-Film transfers) with a home iron.  It’s not the ideal method and a heat press is strongly recommended for the best results; using a home iron may not provide enough heat and pressure for optimal adhesion, but for personal use on smaller projects, it can work with careful application and the right settings on your iron.
We don’t recommend, and never assume responsibility for damaged goods or injury in attempting application.
Key points to remember when using a home iron for DTF:
  • High heat setting:

Set your iron to the highest heat setting suitable for the fabric you are applying the transfer to, usually cotton or linen.

  • Protective layer:

Always use parchment paper or a heat-resistant sheet between the iron and the transfer to prevent sticking.

  • Very Firm pressure:

Apply consistent, firm pressure while ironing to ensure proper adhesion.  Every bit of the transfer surface must receive high pressure and heat for at least 15 seconds with an iron.

  • Multiple passes:

You may need to make multiple passes (passes being very high pressure for 15 seconds of consistent contact) with the iron to fully adhere the transfer.

Potential drawbacks of using a home iron for DTF:
  • Less durable results: The bond might not be as strong as with a heat press, potentially leading to peeling over time.
  • Less precise control: Home irons may not provide even heat distribution across the transfer.
  • Consider  using a solid table with a towel instead of an ironing board to aide in applying more pressure.
